Although Sisko is traditionally a Finnish girls name meaning ‘Sister’, it is still remarkably fashionable on a boy. It is also a Slovenian diminutive of Fransisko, from Francis, meaning Frenchman’. Alternatively it is the short form of Croatian Sismundo, from Sigmund, meaning ‘Victorious Protector’.
The alternate spelling ‘Cisco‘ is a nickname for the Spanish name Francisco, also meaning ‘Frenchman’.
Similar names include Xysto, Sato and Seumas.
The inspiration for this came from Captain Benjamin Lafayette Sisko from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, from whom we would like to honor with a quote:
DS9 S04E17 "Rules of Engagement" Spoken to Lieutenant Commander Worf: "When you get four clips on that collar. you'll wish you'd gone into botany!"
