Macy is an English name that denotes a family from a place called ‘Massy’ or in some scripts ‘Mascy’. The place name is derived from Latin name Maccius, a variation of Matthew, meaning ‘Gift of God’.

Conflicting sources also state that Macy may mean ‘Hill’, or that it is of Old French origin and means ‘Weapon’ (from Mace).

There are a lot of popular spellings for Macy, which include Macie, Maci, or Macey.

I do have a preference for French variant Massé, I just really enjoy the short ‘a’ and unique spelling.
