Luke is an English diminutive of the Latin name: Lucas, or Greek name: Loukas. They ultimately derive from Latin Lucius, meaning ‘Light’, ‘Light Giver’, or ‘Born at Dawn’.
I do particularly like variations Luc (Welsh), Luca, Lucia and Lucania (Italian).
Luke is the author of the third gospel of the Bible. He is known as the patron Saint of Doctors and Artists, his symbol being the Winged-Ox.
