The English name Ivy is the same as that of the climbing, and sometimes poisonous plant. It’s meaning comes from the ancient Greeks who would give Ivy wreaths at weddings to the bride to symbolise faithfulness within their marriage.
Ivy is a great, green nature name, perfect for those little hippies. But it is also a classic, there are many Ivy’s getting around that were born in the earlier years of the 20th century.
Even so, it is quite popular at the moment, which I attribute to its enticing ‘V’ sound, and the fact that it fits in with all the other cool flower names such as Daisy, Sunflower, Poppy and Lily.
