The Greek name Ajax is that of two Trojan warriors in ancient literature, both were war heroes renowned for their audacity, courage and expertise in combat. Ajax Telamon lead the Greek army into battle after the greater famed Achilles had left. The second was Ajax Oileus , known as Locrian Ajax or Ajax the Lesser, who lead the Locrian contingent into battle. He was the son of Oileus, King of Locris.

A couple of variations of this name are the Greek Aias (EYE-us), and the English Jax.
